TYRRELL COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) - That fire in Tyrrell County has gotten larger.
The North Carolina Forest Service said late Tuesday afternoon that the Last Resort Fire has now consumed 5,384 acres, up from 5,200 acres on Monday.
State foresters said the fire is now 48% contained.
They said Greenville and Washington can expect impacts from the smoke overnight, while Belhaven, Pantego, and Swan Quarter will see smoke early Wednesday morning.
The state says a combination of smoke and fog could lead to low visibility in some areas and they warn drivers to stay alert to changing conditions and any road closures that may be needed.
Some 67 firefighters from the Forest Service and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service are currently working to put out the fire.
The fire started last week when a debris burn on private land jumped containment.
