Kinston police release name of teen shot and killed
KINSTON, N.C. (WITN) - A teen has died after being shot in Kinston on Saturday.
Officers were called to 500 Marcella Dr around 1:40 p.m. for an unresponsive person.
Once the officers arrived, they found 16-year-old Jayden Ellis dead from a gunshot wound.
Police Chief Keith Goyette said Ellis attended Kinston High School. Additional counselors are available at the school for any students who are struggling.
Lenoir County Public Schools provided a statement to WITN regarding Ellis’ death:
“LCPS is obviously saddened by the death of a student and offers condolences to the family and friends of Kinston High School senior Jayden Ellis. Additional counselors and other support personnel are at school today to assist students and staff. Due to the apparent circumstances, LCPS considers this a police matter and stands by, as always, to assist law enforcement if needed.”
