RALEIGH, N.C. (WITN) - The work search requirement for unemployment benefits in North Carolina is reinstated.

Several states, including North Carolina, are bringing back a work requirement to keep unemployment benefits.

State leaders say some or all recipients will now have to search for work or grow their skills to continue receiving benefits.

In addition to North Carolina, 22 other states brought back the requirement.

States initially suspended that mandate after the pandemic forced states to lockdown last year to decrease the COVID-19 virus from spreading.
