North Carolina Highway Patrol gets new commander
RALEIGH, N.C. (WITN) - The Highway Patrol has a new commander.
Gov. Roy Cooper appointed Major Freddy Johnson today to lead more than 1,600 state troopers.
He replaces Col. Glenn McNeill who retired on April 1st.
Johnson began his career as a trooper in Lumberton in 1996. He most recently was promoted to major in 2017 and was director of Motor Carrier Enforcement and Special Operations.
The Fayetteville native graduated from Fayetteville State University and the FBI National Academy.
